Girly Graduation Cake
This simple cake was iced in white buttercream frosting with swirls of icing piped on top. The ruffle border and the writing was piped in pink. Then pink fondant flowers were added. A nice break from the gold and (fill in the blank) color schemes of most graduation cakes! It was more about the graduate and less about the school.

Lightning McQueen Cars Cookies
These sugar cookies were cut out in the shape of Lightning McQueen and topped with a thin layer of fondant. Red fondant was cut and stamped with a cookie cutter, then attached to the tops of the cookies with icing glaze. The details were all hand painted with food color and petal dust, the eyes dotted with blue piping gel and black pearl candies. Each cookie was then wrapped in individual cellophane bags with matching bows for giving as party favors.

Bubble Guppies First Birthday Cake
This version of my Bubble Guppies cake was topped with a jumbo cupcake, which also served as a "smash" cake for the 1st birthday girl. We also added the chocolate "1" to the top, plus a couple more characters than the other cakes. The cake was covered in fondant with fondant stripes. The coral and shells were molded out of chocolate. Characters were hand cut from fondant and hand drawn.

This cake was for a recent graduate who was leaving Laguna Hills High School for Texas Christian University, home of the "horned frogs". The cake reflected the TCU colors of purple and white. The 2 tier cake was topped with a fondant covered mortar board and fondant tassel. The frog mascot was hand drawn on wafer paper and attached to fondant.

Twin Princess Castle Cakes
These cakes were made for twin sisters who were turning 4, each with a favorite princess. So I made two separate cakes, one pink and one blue. Both cakes were covered in textured fondant in shades of pink and blue. The towers on top of the cakes were stacked cupcakes topped with sugar ice cream cones. Each castle features a hand drawn princess at the front gates, textured wood shutters, and fondant flowers in piped ivy vines. The cakes were featured at a beautiful royal dessert table decked out in everything pink and blue (all done by their talented mom!) which also featured my chocolate peanut butter parfaits.

Alice in Wonderland Inspired Tea Party Cake
This 3-tier cake was for a first birthday and was much cuter in person! (Sorry for the bad photos...camera batteries gave out and I had to use my phone). The tiers were covered in pink and purple alternating fondant. Then I added simple shapes (stripes, hearts, and teapots) to each tier. I then added the cutout "Alice" silhouette (which was taken from the party invitation) in fondant to the bottom layer. I created some gumpaste flowers for the side of the cake. Then I molded a pocket watch from fondant and painted the outside with gold luster paint. The tea cup on top of the cake was molded from chocolate and hand painted. I then filled the cup with vanilla cake and topped it with a dollop of strawberry buttercream and some "pixie dust" glitter (this cup o' cake was the "smash" cake for the first birthday party). The cake tiers were german chocolate cake, lemon cake, and vanilla cake. I thought it was a simple and fun representation of the Alice in Wonderland theme.

Jungle Animal Cupcakes and Glitter Pops
These cupcakes were for a baby shower with a jungle animal theme. I used their invitation as inspiration and created fondant animal toppers for the cupcakes. The cupcakes were "confetti" vanilla cake with cream cheese icing that I tinted light green. Then I made matching chocolate truffle pops which I covered in 3 shades of edible glitter.

Caddyshack Gopher with Golf Ball Cake
Those of you who attended the Charity Golf Classic and Carnival last weekend at the Aliso Viejo Country Club may have just seen this little guy in person. Plumeria Cake Studio donated 200+ cupcakes to support the American Heart Association, MDA, and some other great charities. Not only did I get to come up with this fun display (complete with astroturf), but I also got to make a "display cake" to celebrate their event theme: Caddyshack. The "cake" was actually molded rice krispie treats covered in royal icing. All the other details on the gopher's face were made with fondant, the eyes and nose covered with piping gel for a little shine. The golf ball was molded out of white chocolate, and the flag cut out of gumpaste. It was a fun project and a great day. Thanks AVCC!!

Graduation "Book and Cap" Cake
This 2 tier cake was a vanilla cake with strawberry filling on the bottom and a strawberry cake with strawberry filling on the top. The base cake was covered in fondant and made to look like a book in his high school colors of teal, black and white. The top cake was molded to look like a graduation cap, topped with a fondant-covered piece of cardboard and a fondant tassel. The fondant stars were covered in piping gel for sparkle and wired to stand above the cake. Then I added a couple details to represent the Graduate's plans to study pre-med at UCLA. [Note: If you saw my previous post regarding grad cakes, this was Grad Cake Design #3].

Graduation "High School to College" Cake
This cake was for a Santa Margarita Catholic High School graduate who was also turning 18 and is going to Colorado State in the fall, so I chose a yin/yang design to incorporate both schools' colors and logos. The SMCHS Eagle and Colorado State Ram were hand drawn on fondant and added to the cake. The fondant letters were glittered with edible glitter (which matched the glitter pops that accompanied the cake - in gold, green and blue). The cake was cookies & cream cake with vanilla custard filling. Congratulations Rylee! We'll miss you in the 'hood!

All carriage details were made with fondant. Cinderella was stamped onto fondant and colored with food color markers. Wires were added for decoration. The base cake was covered in blue fondant with white buttercream swirls piped on top. The swirls were studded with pearl candies and the fondant banner added to the front.
