A pair of jumbo cupcakes surrounded by 48 mini cupcakes make this birthday centerpiece (only a portion is shown). "Sand" cupcakes were covered in cinnamon sugar (my solution for the birthday girl's request for "no frosting"). Others were piped with blue icing. Mini cupcakes had chocolate shells and beach umbrellas for accent. Main cupcakes were topped with a fondant sign and "Blue" the parrot. The bird was hand-molded out of gumpaste and painted with various shades of blue with an airbrush.

This "baby reveal" party was the brain child of my good friend Stephanie who had all her friends and family guessing the sex of her unborn baby. The ultrasound technician wrote the sex of the baby in a sealed envelope, which was delivered to me. I tinted a cream filling pink or blue to reveal the big news, and filled every cupcake. Then I frosted all the cupcakes (in pink and blue to keep everyone guessing) and topped them with matching baby bottles or onesies made of fondant. At the party, guests bit into the cupcakes to discover the big secret. HINT: it was BLUE!
